The gulf of Volos and the Northern Sporades are a sheltered, family- and beginner friendly sailing estuary. The gulf of Volos is absolutely worth a visit. Numerous, deserted bays, warm clean water, green rolling country side, small islands, imposing cliffs and taverns in virtually every bay.
The Northern Sporades include the four large inhabited islands of Skiathos, Skopelos, Alonissos, Skyros and many further uninhabited small islands with beautiful bays and beaches.
The islands group of the Sporades, which means “the scattered”, is famous for the pleasant climate, as the wind doesn’t let it get too hot. The ideal conditions of the temperature and wind make it the perfect sailing destination, during spring, summer and autumn.
The numerous bays and seaside villages on the gulf of Volos, as the island group north of the Sporades, offer a variety of possibilities for a perfect sailing trip.
The distance between the islands and mooring bays are short and easily reachable. Marinas, as we know them, are not a typical feature here. The islands of Skiathos, Skopelos and Alonissos all have their main port and a couple of smaller mooring places. But there are many sheltered bays where one moors with a land cord. Water and fuel can only be bought at the main ports, which all have small old towns, well worth a visit. On the larger islands there are beaches and bays with simple infrastructure, including cafes and taverns. On the uninhabited smaller islands there is only a little bit of individual tourism, due to the sailing and water sports in summer.
Popular goals for sailors are Amaliapolis, which is on the western side of the Volos, and the small town of Milina, about 20 nautical miles from Volos. Here you will find idyllic bays between two islands. We also recommend the picturesque island of Paleo Trikeri, the coastal town of AG Kyriaki and the little port village of Achilleion at the mouth of the gulf of Volos. The highlights of the Sporades are the exquisite sandy beaches of Skiathos and the imposing rock formations of Skopelos.
The Marina has all the usual amenities. Within the marina area and in the immediate neighbourhood are small restaurants, cafes, bars and little shops/supermarkets.
The airport of Volos (Nea Anchialos) is about 30 minutes away from the marina. The next airport is Thessaloniki about 1,5 hours drive away.
If you arrive by plane, we will gladly arrange your transfer by taxi, minivan or shuttle bus and bring you to the marina.
